Every time I visit my sister in New Jersey, I insist on eating at Nori Sushi in Montclair.
“Nori is a Japanese restaurant with a difference. Along with sushi, sashimi, teriyaki and hibachi, the unassuming storefront offers an adventurous sampling of Southeast Asian food. Traditional raw and cooked Japanese fare, from sukiyaki to sushi, regular patter.” (Nori website)
Nori is one of my favourite sushi restaurants in the entire world. I know that sounds a little fantastic, but it’s true. They are consistently good. Compared to a lot of other sushi restaurants, they are affordable, especially because it’s BYO (there’s a wine store across the street), and the staff is very friendly and quick.
Being a terrible creature of habit, and always being afraid of straying from what I know will be amazing, I order the same thing every time. My sister and I share an order of edamame ($5.50) and steamed shrimp shumai ($5.50), and I get the Sake Sake roll (Salmon tempura with fresh salmon topping) ($9.00) and the Unaju roll (shrimp tempura with eel topping) ($10.00). They are both spectacularly delicious and the whole thing is quite filling.
If you’re anywhere near Montclair, NJ, I highly recommend Nori.
