I recently ate my way around Miami – South Beach, Boca Raton, and the Wellington/Palm Beach area. I didn’t photograph everything I ate, but here are some highlights:
Hubs and I ate like rockstars. We didn’t really hold back. The highlight of the whole trip for me was the abundance of Fish Tacos – they were served almost everywhere, and they are healthy and delicious. I had them three times in one week!
I wish there was a Seasons 52 (Boca Raton) in Oxford. The menu is seasonally inspired and every dish is under 475 calories. The portions were perfect and the menu had many great choices. The food was cooked perfectly, and the desserts are to die for. Don’t skip the flatbread appetizers either – they’re yummy!
The best cafe in South Beach Miami is definitely Front Porch Cafe. I had breakfast and lunch there, as well as a fish taco during happy hour. It’s located at the north end of Ocean Road, and is great value for money. In a close second is Van Dyke Cafe – great food, great atmosphere (right on Lincoln Road), and at night they have a jazz club upstairs with quality music! They make crazy good waffles.
I stayed at the Loews Hotel and ate at both of their restaurants – Preston’s and Sushi Sobe. Both were fantastic, faultless meals. I wish I photographed the sushi because it was beautifully presented.
The lobster salad at Nexxt Cafe on Lincoln Road is the biggest, most delicious salad I’ve ever tried. Sadly for me, I ordered the veggie burger – which was quite good, but I coveted hubs’ salad.
The biggest let-down for me was the News Cafe. Every travel book tells you to go there. Friends and family told me to go there. I went there for breakfast and it left me feeling as cold as my eggs – which were ice cold! The service was awful, the eggs were not just room temp, but cold (poached and then doused in cold water, i’m guessing, but not reheated before being served), and the portions were stingy while prices were high. Skip it and go to the Front Porch for the best breakfast in South Beach! We left here and shared a waffle at the Van Dyke after because we were still hungry.
Overall, the food in Florida was excellent pretty much everywhere we went. It was a good eating trip, and i’m pretty sure the scale would tell a good story, if only I would step on it (and it could talk).
