I’m a big fan of veggie burgers and get very excited when I find one that I like in a restaurant. Veggie burgers are a tricky thing – sometimes they are deep fried (which I hate), sometimes they are spicy, sometimes they are very potato-y… but very rarely do they actually resemble meat burgers. I have tried almost all of the veggie burgers in the frozen sections of various UK supermarkets, but usually find fault with them. Until now. Once I found Sainsbury’s Meat Free burgers, I knew I’d found my staple. There are two versions of this – a box of 8 smaller burgers, or these quarter pounders (which come two per box). I’ve gotten in the habit of having my burger without a bun (so I can eat more chips, naturally), so I find one of these quarter pounders extremely satisfying. They cook from frozen in 20 minutes, and come out juicy and tasting of being flame broiled! I’ve even barbecued them and they are equally as delicious. They taste as close to real meat as you can get, in my opinion.

I’ve been eating these weekly – as my regular Friday night dinner, which used to be a chinese takeaway. They are reasonably healthy (or very healthy in comparison to greasy noodles!), and are easy to make and very satisfying. I like to put a little bit of blue cheese on them at the very end, and bake them for a further minute until the cheese gets all gooey. If I’m feeling really motivated, mushrooms and blue cheese are my favourite topping. I usually serve these with some oven chips and a dish of edamame (soya beans) and corn. I know the weekend has officially begun when I have this!
